Soundwell.tv is one of the first websites powered by Wiredrive using media RSS (mRSS) links. Standard RSS is commonly used to broadcast basic information over the Internet; usually text and a link to a website. But the mRSS specification enables more data types to be fed through an RSS URL, including video, images and metadata. Web designers can parse the raw data (videos, four different thumbnail sizes, and metadata) from mRSS links and incorporate it into a website.
Dean stressed the importance of a well-designed site and said powering Soundwell.tv with Wiredrive helps the company stay true to its creative goals. “One of the biggest reasons for having a website is that technology has created the reality of long distance, real-time service exchange. Dean also likes the ability to instantly update Soundwell.tv by updating the Wiredrive presentation feed. “If I want to re-order, upload new items or insert a new article into our website’s news section, I log into my Wiredrive account and a few clicks later I’m finished. I go to my website and it’s there in seconds; truly incredible,” he said adding that “it’s so fast and flexible that I can’t imagine ever outgrowing it.”
MRSS is a free feature in Wiredrive that liberated Dean to explore website concepts that weren’t available through the conventional web development process. “We began our website development with a well-known company that was very expensive, seemed to lack vision and wasn’t very open to concept exploration,” he said. “When we first began exploring Wiredrive to power Soundwell.tv it seemed too good to be true. I immediately understood the vast potential.” Dean also said that Soundwell.tv is standing out from the crowd. “We’ve received many comments on our website; people seem to respond to its look, feel and concept.”
